One of five children born to Owen and Bell Dickinson,Margaret was born in Oneida Township, Michigan,growing up in Detroit, Michigan.
Because of the depression, Margaret completed the eighth grade and went to work as a babysitter and mother's helper. At the same time,she put herself through secretarial school, and began working for SS Kresge Five and Dime, the forerunner to KMart, in the secretarial pool.
During WWII, Margaret was set up on a blind date with a handsome sailor, Joseph Buda. They married on October 27, 1943. At war's end, Margaret and Joe moved from Detroit to a dairy farm and raised the first five of eight children.
In 1957,Margaret and Joe moved their family from Michigan to Auburn, California. They added the last three children to the family over the next four years. For over two decades, she taxied her kids and their friends to swim lessons, library, sports and school events. Education was important to Margaret, and she was proud to complete her dream of graduating high school, earning her GED from Placer High School in 1975.
Margaret took classes at Sierra College, worked in the college bookstore, and was a teacher's aide at Pleasant Ridge School. She was also a sought after babysitter. Many of her former kids greeted her with happy memories at the Placer High School 100th year Celebration. Margaret was also an active member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church.
Mother loved her flower garden and spent many hours at Eisley's Nursery and Iris farms picking just the right plant. She canned fruits and vegetables, and wild blackberry jam that the family enjoyed eating through the years. She loved watching her grandchildren; introducing them to reading, board games and imaginative play.
For the last 12 years, Margaret lived at Solstice Senior Living in Auburn,leading an independent life playing Bingo and making many wonderful friends among residents and staff.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of almost 65 yrs, Joseph Buda, her parents and her siblings.
She is survived by her children Susan, Ron (Lula), Barbara, Brian, Merrianne (Stephen) Mathies, Kevin, Patty (Ken)Robson, and Becky (Patrick) Dukeshire; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, her brother in law Ernest (Sharon)Buda, and sisters in law Betty Beets and Betty Buda Joy.
A memorial service will be held at the Pioneer United Methodist Church, 1338 Lincoln Way, Auburn on April 30, at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Placer County Library, where Margaret loved to spend time amongst the books or to Pioneer United Methodist Church.
