Naomi Mary Barton (nee Dempsey) died peacefully, in Auburn, CA on April 18, 2012. Naomi was born in Cotati, CA on October 17, 1912 to John and Mary Dempsey. Naomi was the only daughter in a family of five. She was raised on a chicken farm with her beloved four brothers where she helped with the farm, house chores and having egg fights with her mother and brothers. Naomi had a great sense of humor which kept her going throughout her life. She married Jere Barton on October 28, 1939 and settled in Redwood City, CA where she raised her two sons, James and Thomas. She worked as a secretary outside of home, but she was most passionate about being a wife, mother and homemaker. After Jere retired from Chevron in 1972, they moved to Sun River, Oregon. There she learned to ski, and also renewed her passion for swimming and gardening. After her husband’s death, Naomi retired to Auburn, CA so her son Tom could take care of her. Naomi often said “If I am going to be a burden to anyone, I will be a burden to Tom.” She enjoyed helping Tom raise his son and also took personal interest in her other grandchildren. She leaves her sons James Barton of Redwood City, CA and Thomas Barton of Colfax, CA. Her grandchildren Chris Barton of Sun River, OR, Laura Barton of Los Angeles, CA and Jere Barton of Redwood City, CA. Naomi will be missed by all who knew her. We will miss her love for family, her sense of humor and wit. Arrangements under the direction of Chapel of the Hills.
