Trained in the lumber business and logging trades as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator, Bill found his true calling as a Fireman with the California Division of Forestry (CDF) operating Fire Dozers starting in Santa Clara Unit and moving to the Nevada, Yuba, Placer Ranger Unit.
“Wild Bill” as he was known transitioned to Fire Captain on CDF Fire Engines assigned to both the County Structural and State Wildland Firehouses.
Besides his family, Bill was probably most proud of his service to the City of Auburn, Volunteer Fire Department and Hook and Ladder Company # 1. In over 35 years of service he performed roles in suppression, training, operations and administration and retired as a Fire Captain, work which he loved.
Bill was active in the community and was a member of Eureka Lodge # 16, Free and Accepted Masons, Auburn Scottish Rite, York Rite and Ben Ali Shrine, Sacramento.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol Taylor of Auburn, Son, Kurt Anthony Taylor of Hangtown, CA and siblings Bob Taylor (Jo) of Merlin, OR, Rae Annette London of Sacramento, CA and Paula Kimball of Coquille, OR.
A Visitation/Viewing will be held at Chapel of the Hills, 1331 Lincoln Way, Auburn, CA on Tuesday, September 15 at 11:00, with Funeral Service beginning at 12:00 noon. A Fire Service procession to the New Auburn Cemetery for burial will follow.
