Diane was born November 30, 1942 in Glen Rock, New Jersey to Elmer T. (Mac) McKay and Ann Violet McKay (nee Halfyard). Diane grew up in Sparta, NJ and attended Newton (NJ) High School. She was a proud graduate of Hood College (1964), where she majored in English. Diane and James (Jim) H. Nuner married on August 7th, 1965. They raised 2 daughters, Jennifer and Linda. Over the years, Diane worked as an English teacher, insurance agent, realtor, and newspaper reporter. Despite often working long hours, she always made time to attend her children’s myriad swim meets, band and choir concerts, and artistic swimming performances. In later years, Jim and Diane cruised the world and travelled the country together in their RV, settling for a while in Deming, NM to enjoy the warm weather, sunshine, and good friends. Most recently, Diane and Jim moved to Michigan to be closer to family.
Diane is celebrated for her love of words, reading and word games. She appreciated a good pun, and a bad pun was even better. She had the brightest sapphire blue eyes that sparkled when she was telling a silly joke or engaging in banter. She was a better artist than she gave herself credit for, dabbling in oil paints, putting calligraphy love notes into her kids’ lunches, and drawing quirky designs on easter eggs. She was an aspiring author and wrote a collaborative story with her grandkids. She was a champion at hugging. She enjoyed water aerobics and often mentioned her days swimming and lifeguarding at Lake Mohawk, where she grew up. While she and Jim were living in Indiana, she became a lifelong fan of Notre Dame football. Diane loved puppies of all ages, and despite her insistence that she never gave them “people food”, she in fact did give them “people food” anytime they asked. She appreciated a nice glass of red wine and a piece of good chocolate.
Diane is survived by her beloved husband James H. Nuner, daughters Jennifer C. N. Healy (Adrian, whose tireless support has been invaluable) and Linda N. Taggart (Christopher), grandchildren Connor A. Healy and Leah C. Healy, brother-in-law Robert T. Nuner, nieces and nephews Tracy L. Harrington, Sandra Bombria, David Nuner, John Oster, Sandra Nuner, and their families. She is predeceased by her parents Elmer T. and Ann McKay, and her sister and brother-in-law Judith McKay Oster and Edgar H. Oster.
