John was born July 29, 1943, in Rockford, Illinois. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He married Diana on June 19, 1965, and they made their home together wherever their adventures with his career at IBM took them. Their journeys stretched from Wisconsin to North Carolina, and then onto Ohio and Texas before landing in Troy, Michigan in 1985. John was highly regarded and well-respected at IBM for his calm demeanor. During his tenure at IBM John received multiple years of accolades as a member of the 100% Club, Golden Circle awards, and Divisional Leadership Awards. In 1984 John took over the management of the Computerized Automotive Maintenance System (“CAMS”) joint development project at GM. The project was featured on the 1985 IBM Annual Report and generated significant revenue for IBM. John was recognized for outstanding leadership and innovative product delivery. He retired in 1997 after over 30 years of service.
Following his retirement from IBM, John and Diana loved traveling to Italy, New Zealand, visiting friends and family, and spending time up north. While John had been a volunteer youth soccer coach for many of his early years, during his retirement he also volunteered his time to become the swim coach at Troy Athens High School for over 10 years, where he dedicated his time to the growth and development of the swim program. His swimmers remember Coach McCrudden as being kind and caring, disciplined and patient.
John and Diana were always helping their children with home and garden projects over the years, as well as maintaining their own beautiful gardens.
John was remembered at a private celebration of life by his family on Sunday, March 12, 2023.
