September 29, 1952 – October 19, 2025
Karen Agnes Merritt, age 73, of Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025. Born on September 29, 1952, in Highland Park, Michigan, to Edwin and Marie Blaszczyk, Karen lived a life rich in love, family, and meaningful moments.
Karen had a passion for reading, often getting lost in the pages of Stephen King and James Patterson novels. She cherished sunny days spent by the pool and treasured time at the family’s vacation home in Florida. Christmas held a special place in her heart—her home glowed with the warmth of the season, and her beloved collection of snow globes was a festive testament to her joy.
She was well known for her thoughtful nature, especially through her handwritten thank-you cards that touched so many. But more than anything, Karen loved being surrounded by her family. They were the center of her world and the source of her greatest happiness.
Karen is survived by her devoted husband, Earl Merritt, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage since their wedding on June 30, 1971. She was a proud and loving mother to Eric (Tracey) Merritt, Earl (Anna) Merritt, Brian (Alisa) Merritt, and Jennifer (Andrew) Brennan.
Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Alexa, Mackenzie, Erin, Ryan, Ava, Nathan, Isabella, Kirsten, Emily, and Kate, and her great-grandson, Jivanni. Karen is also survived by her siblings: Linda, Dorine, Cheryl, Patrick, and Kirk. She was preceded in death by her sister, Denise.
A visitation for Karen will be held on Thursday, October 23, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pixley Funeral Home, John Desmond Chapel, 3530 Auburn Rd., Auburn Hills, MI 48326.
Karen will be laid to rest at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.
