

Richard James Hall III of Mifflintown, PA and Bethel, AK passed away January 10th, 2022 at the age of 78. Born August 17, 1943 in Darby, PA, he was the eldest child of Richard and Josephine Hall. Dick graduated from Springfield High School where he was the heavyweight wrestling champion everyone called “Humph.” He attended Millersville University where he received his teaching degree and married Diana Napoli in 1966. He later married Jody Malus in 1991.
He is survived by his three children: Dana Lee Hall (David), Richard James Hall IV (Jen), and Jacob Joseph Hall and a delightful mob of grandchildren: Dover, Ilan, EliNoam, Raviv, Yair Horesh; Ricky, Ben, Ava Hall; Matthew, Peter, Emily, Kathryn, Timothy, Stephen Hall; and an even bigger and just as delightful mob of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters: Arlene Tishuk, Cheryl Hoban, and Melanie Caravello.
During Dick’s wanderings, he taught thousands of elementary students starting in a one-room schoolhouse in Lancaster, PA. He continued at the Midd-West School District at Beaver Adams Elementary, and as a junior–senior high teacher in Bethel, Alaska. He cared deeply for all “his kids” wherever they were. He was a merchant seaman, beekeeper, bison farmer, hunter, explorer, Iditarod dog team handler, and a long-distance bicycle rider. In 1983, he and his children then ages 10, 12, and 14 rode bikes from Coos Bay, OR to Quincy, MA - a 4400 mile trip in 79 days.
Dick was buried without ceremony.
