Portland- Ken Severy, 70, of Durham, Maine passed away Thursday May 31, after suffering from a stroke, surrounded by his family and loved ones at Maine Medical Center. Ken was born December 14, 1947 to the late Donald and Margaret (Bubier) Severy of Wales, Maine. Ken graduated from Lewiston High School in 1966. He then continued his education at the University of Maine at Orono, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. During college, Ken served four years in the Army National Guard. While Ken always had a passion for working in the woods, he found his passion for competing in woodsmen meets in college. Ken was skilled in many of the woodmen’s events, his favorite being the underhand chop. Ken retired from Bath Iron Works in 2014. In his retirement he enjoyed consulting for Colby Company Engineering in Portland. When Ken wasn’t working and competing at woodsman’s competitions all over New England, he was showing off his outstanding dancing skills at Maplewood Dance Center in Portland. For all of his accomplishments Ken was a humble and modest man, a true gentleman. Ken enjoyed so many wonderful things in his life. He was an avid outdoors man, enjoying activities from hiking to canoeing and skiing. As busy as he kept himself, he always found time to help anyone in need. Ken enjoyed volunteering for many things throughout his life; most notable was working with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Brunswick.
Through the years, Ken and his little brother, Trevor S, remained very close. Ken is survived by his two sons Eric and Joel, three brothers Raymond, Richard and Brian, and his four sisters Donna Spaulding, Carol Quinn, Marion Guyette, and Paula Thayer.
