Richard was the son of the late Arthur E. and Verna Litts. He was born on March 29, 1920, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. Richard attended Tomahawk High School, and enlisted in the US Army at Fort Sheridan, Illinois in 1942. His military expertise included driving a Sherman Tank during World War II, an experience he seldom spoke of, but when asked about his service, it was obvious that he served proudly and bravely. On June 18, 1955, he was united in marriage to V. Pauline Sample (Weisflog) in Puyallup, WA. He and Pauline provided a loving home for their family in Pacific.
Mr. Litts was a certified welder and for many years worked for United Concrete Foundation in Auburn. During these years, his work kept him close to his home and family. In later years, when the children were grown, field work included many new challenges, including working away from home, on water towers, and on many other complex and fascinating projects.
Richard was a member of Wabash Presbyterian Church where he served for many years on the building maintenance committee. In addition to sharing his love for the Lord, and his carpentry and handyman skills, he was known for sharing a big batch of Wednesday-morning doughnuts. His talent with carpentry resulted in a wonderful re-model of the family home; putting up walls at his daughter and son-in-law's home; constructing and donating beautiful, sturdy picnic tables; and many other intricate and useful woodworking projects. Richard also enjoyed and had a special talent for vegetable and flower gardening. For several years, along with a good friend and neighbor, he cultivated one of the area's most beautiful dahlia fields.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Pauline; step-son, Ken Weisflog, Spanaway, WA; step-daughter Linda (Les) Willey, Roy, WA; two step-grandchildren, Valerie Prince, Federal Way, WA; and Derek Weisflog, Spanaway, WA; one great-step-grandson, Dalton Riha; and three sisters, Lucretia Stark, Auburn, WA; Harriet Bailey, Ballard, WA; and Goldie Trentman, Fife, WA. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Verna Litts, five brothers, Gordon, Arthur, Donnie, Fred and LeRoy; and four sisters, Gayle, Dawn, Helen and Donna.
Visitation will be on tuesday, July 19th from noon until 8:00 PM at Price-Helton Funeral Home, 702 Auburn Way North, Auburn, WA 98002.
