Ruth E. Heath “Mom” was born July 15, 1920 to Bertha Reynolds and Fred Bruce in Sunnyside WA. She joined 4 older siblings and later had 4 younger. A true middle child.
Mom passed away December 1, 2012 at age 92. She lived at Stafford Suites in Sumner for 9 years and considered it home.
Mom and Dad met in Sunnyside when Dad “came out West” from Kansas to pick apples. They married in 1938. After moving to the mid-west in 1942 they came back to Washington in 1948 and lived in Auburn, Algona, Pacific and in 1962 to Sumner. She worked at the GSA and Ben Franklin in Auburn. When they moved to Sumner Mom worked at the JC Penneys in Puyallup and McAlder Elementary in Sumner as a Teachers Aid.
With 6 Daughters our parents were very active in our schools and Pacific Methodist Church. She was Superintendent of the Sunday School and played piano and organ for many years.
We still remember the days when we would load up the pump organ on the back of a flatbed truck and take the MYF group out to sing Christmas Carols.
After moving to Sumner Mom and Dad became very involved in the Masonic, Eastern Star and Rainbow organizations.
Mom did not graduate from high school, so in mid 1960’s she started night school and earned her wonderful diploma in December 1968
Mom was a huge volunteer from Celebrate Seniority, Grannies Closet and Hospice. She was a Howdy Tour guide at the Puyallup Fair for many years. In 2000 she was honored by Pierce County Ever Active for her many years of service. In her spare time she made quilts for old and young and many items for babies.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Bennie, 6 of her siblings 1 grandson and 1 great grandson. She is survived by sisters Bev Henry of Colville and Jonnie Pat of Selah, her 6 daughters Jean, Judy, Gerry, Sandy, Bobbie and Peggy. Plus 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, along with 250+ Bruce cousins and 330 Reynolds Kissin Cousins.
A Celebration of her life will be held 1pm Saturday April 6, 2013 at Price-Helton Funeral Home, 702 Auburn Way N, Auburn WA. www.price-heltonfuneralhome.com .
A page in the book of memory,
Silently turns today.
We remember you in silcence,
And make no outward show.
And what it means to lose you,
No one will ever know.
