LAKE WALES - John “Jay” Owens 78, passed away on April 28, 2016 in Winter Haven, Florida. He was born on December 16, 1937 in Norton, Virginia to Robert Lee and Elsie Mae. Jay was the oldest of seven siblings. He is a veteran of the United States Army. Jay served as a deacon for Lake Hamilton Free Will Baptist Church. He lived a life full of love and family.
Jay is survived by his wife, Linda Owens, married on August 20, 1960. He is also survived by his daughters, Janet (John) Bringle, Sandy Owens, Angie (Scott) Cheshire and his son Ray Owens. He is survived by his grandchildren, John (Chelsy) Bringle, Jeremy (Jessica) Bringle, Julia Bringle, Destiny (Joseph) Johnson, Heather Owens, Ashley Cheshire, Robbie Cox, Hannah Rogerson, Rhiana Owens and great grandchildren, Gregory, Nevaeh, Kylie, Joe Joe, Jase, Kamia, Juliana, Eli, and Keelee. He is also survived by his brothers, Gerald, Gary, Bobby, and Shane.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Elsie, and two brothers, Doug and Cleamond.
Memorial Services will be held Monday, May 2, 2016 with visitation at 9:00 a.m. and services to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Ott-Laughlin in Auburndale.
