He was employed at a mining company, and a public High School, retiring from both. After retirement, he went into full-time ministry until ill health started to affect him. Even though he could not attend church regularly, he would have church in his garage with his tape recorder playing Christian songs. Rev. Hines would speak to, pray for and minister to anyone that walked in his community. He loved telling them about Jesus and His goodness.
Rev. Hines stated that he could not read and write properly until he was anointed by God. He became an associate Minister at First Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Clifton E. Dollison.
Over the years he became sickly with several medical health problems, but he was a man of faith and had a fighting spirit. On February 2, 2023, he gave up the fight and went home to be with the Lord. He lived a full life and did what the Lord instructed him to do, by helping people even to a fault.
