Born in White's Creek, Tennessee to Edna Louise and Charles Maurice Bell, Mary Ann Bell was born at home on her granddaddy's farm, outside of Nashville. Mary was a happy and precocious child. Her brother Charlie was born just 11 months after she was and they even shared a crib as little ones. She called him “son” because that is what her mama called him. Mary always felt that those early years were the "best years" and she told many hilarious stories of the adventures emanating from her active and impetuous mind; these adventures usually resulted in a scolding. Life often brings change; a relocation ensued and along with it came another brother, Ralph. Mom's best friends in life were these brothers.
Like the ending of a good novel, through her beloved Uncle Bob Bell, 20 years ago Mary Ann learned of a sister, Charlene, whom she had not known existed. With countless poignant stories shared that lost side of the family became kin.
The thing that always entered a room before Mary did was her smile. Just as her smile was the last thing remaining after she left a room. In between was the twinkle of merriment in her eye that was impossible to overlook. She has been loved by all who met her and her gracious consideration of other people was their reward.
A long time resident of Winter Haven, Florida, Mary Ann was a successful business woman for many years. Her formidable intelligence and savvy insight combined with her inexorable integrity contributed to the respect that she earned from her clients and peers.
So lucky to have her as a mom are her daughters: Laura Beatty (Lake Wales, FL), Lana Beatty (NM and SD), Lisa Beatty (Utah), and Libby (Nikki) Powers Edwards (husband Paul) (Virginia).
Mary Ann has 13 grandchildren, Laura's 2- Caley and Aisha, Lana's 2 – Halcyone and Morgana, Lisa's 1 – Marc, and Libby's 9 – Brittany, Matthew, Kenneth, Jessie, Jay, Jordan, Jonathan, Lilly, and Jakob. Additionally, Mary has 3 great grandchildren, Cadence, Finny and Jayden.
Memorial service and the celebration of Mary's life will be held on Saturday afternoon, April 9th, at 4pm. A light supper and gathering to follow in the social hall. Beymer Memorial United Methodist Church in Winter Haven. All are welcome.
