

Alfredo “Fred” Sanez Zamora, 89, passed away on Feb 3, 2023. He was the son of Francisco & Eva Zamora of Brownsville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his son Alfredo “Freddy” Zamora in January 2023. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Alicia Benavedez Zamora, two daughters, Deborah Zamora and Melba (Tim) Nichols, a daughter-in-law Denise Zamora, five grandchildren, Timmy (Tina) Nichols, Jessica (Stephen) Perry, Heather Nichols, Michael (Angela) Zwanziger and Chris Nichols, 7 great grandkids, Alexus, Faith, Juliana, Savannah, Wyatt, Alivia, Chris Jr and McKenna, and a step grandson Trenton.
After graduating high school Fred enlisted in the Texas National Guard where he severed for 12 years. After that he joined the army where he served for another 30 years. He was stationed in several posts throughout the US, Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. He served over 50 years in the American Legion. He was awarded a Lifetime membership in 1981. He was Junior Commander, Senior Commander and Commander of Post 205, Junior Commander, Senior Commander and Commander of the 11th District Department and Junior Vice for the Dept. of Georgia. He also served many years on the National Security Council and Vice Chairman for the National Foreign Council for the American Legion. He was also a member of the 40/8. He established the “Sons of the American Legion” and “Color Guard” at the American Legion Post 205. Throughout his career Fred received many special recognitions, certificates of appreciations and outstanding service awards and many plagues.
Fred graduated from the Augusta Technical Institute in 1986 and went on to retire, again, from the Augusta VA Medical Center where he worked as a Radiology Technician. He also spent 37 years volunteering there.
Pallbearers will be members of the military. Honorary pallbearers will be the Dept. of Georgia Officers and American Legions District officers.
The family will receive visitors at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road, on Friday, Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be at The Church of The Most Holy Trinity at 2:00pm, on Telfair Street, Augusta Thursday, February 9, 2023. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park 2700 Deans Bridge Road, Augusta, GA 30906 with Full Military Honors.
Donations can be sent to the Cancer Treatment Center of America in memory of his son Alfredo “Freddy” Zamora and to the Wounded Warrior Project.
A repass will be held at American Legion 178 Richmond Hill Road Augusta, Georgia. Everyone is welcome.
