Almeda Katie Diamond West

Mrs. West was born to the late Charlie and Katie Diamond in North Augusta, SC. She was a devoted Christian. Mrs. West worked as an LPN and physical therapist, but later became a devoted housewife to her husband and children. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping at Macy’s, sewing, cooking, bowling and working in the yard.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. West is preceded in death by her loving husband of 79 years, Walter West Jr.; brothers, Harry, Jack, Clyde, Cecil and Jim Diamond; and grandson, Martin Niederhofer. Survivors include her son, Walter West III (Bonnie); daughters, Marcia Giacobone (Jack), Linda Niederhofer (Dennis), Karen Miller (Rex); grandchildren, Jason Waters (Belinda), Leah Vining (Shayne), Chadwick Bass, Amy Carrigan (Jack), Lisa Schipansky and Morgan Niederhofer; 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Thursday, November 13, 2025 officiated by Rev. Jack Foley, Chaplain, at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 1pm at the Elliott Sons Funeral Home before the service. It would honor Mrs. West if friends and family would make a donation to their place of worship. The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers at Georgia Hospice Care, and the personal CNA and caregivers who cared for Mrs. West.
