Alonda Smith

Ms. Alonda Margaret Smith (Byington), age 69, entered into rest Friday, June 6, 2025 at her Waynesboro, GA residence. Ms. Smith was born in Whidbey Island, WA, to the late Mr. Donald Lee Byington Sr. and Mrs. Mildred Fern Byington (Dewey) on May 11, 1956.

Ms. Smith was a devoted Army soldier, retiring with over 33 years experience in multiple MOSs including postal, supply, and logistics. Her final home base was Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL in 2010, where she was promoted to her highest rank of SGM.

She was also a member of American Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 649 of Augusta GA, as well as American Legion Post 43 of Sedro Woolley, WA.

She was also an avid NASCAR fan, attending as many races as she could in her prime health.

Ms. Smith was preceded in death by both of her parents, a brother Donald Byington Jr., and best friend Jeff Brizius.

She is survived by her daughters, Misty Duggan and Amber Maldonado. As well as son in law Phillip Duggan, with 2 children Aubrey and Austin, and son in law John Maldonado, with 4 children Micah, Jake, Macey, and Maddox. She also is survived by brothers John Byington and Ron Byington with sister in law Shelley Byington, and multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews.

An honorary military gravesite will be erected at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with family to accept condolences on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 10:00 AM.
