

Born on December 13, 1945, in Jacksonville, FL, Art dedicated over 22 years of his life to the United States Army, serving with honor, courage, and unwavering commitment. Enlisting in 1965, he rose through the ranks to Master Sergeant, leading with integrity and compassion. His distinguished career included service in the Vietnam War and assignments at the 45th Field Hospital, Caserma Carlo Ederle, Vicenza, Italy; Walson Army Hospital, Ft. Dix, NJ; Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, HI; Bayne Jones Army Hospital, Ft. Polk, LA (2); and Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Ft. Gordon, GA (2). His dedication, service, and leadership earned him numerous commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (2 Campaigns), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, 2 O/S Bars, Army Achievement Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal (2d OLC), Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Overseas Service Ribbon (1), Marksman (Rifle), NCO Professional Development Ribbons (3); and achieving above all, an Honorable Discharge.
Art graduated from Baldwin High School (FL), Northwestern State University (LA), and Augusta University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. He was a mentor to countless soldiers and civilians, known for his steady guidance and deep respect for those he served alongside. After retiring from the Army in 1987, he continued his nursing career for another 20+ years as a Registered Nurse at Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, Doctor’s Hospital, and Augusta State Medical Prison serving in the specialty areas of Medical-Surgical, ICU, Burn Care, and Rehabilitation; and in so doing, embodying the Army values in every aspect of his life.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Art cherished time with his family and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and cheering for his favorite football team, the Georgia Bulldogs. He was also a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he served in several leadership roles and especially enjoyed serving in the Heart to Hope Food Pantry. Art’s legacy is of service, loyalty, and love.
Art is survived by his two children, Debra Trulson McKenzie (Richard) of North Augusta, SC, and Christina Trulson Morris of Augusta, GA; his beloved grandchildren, Chris Morris (Brittany), Blake Morris (Amber), Steven McKenzie, Madison McKenzie (Rhamel Edwards), and Grace McKenzie; and great-grandchildren, Joshua McKenzie, Kendal Morris, Charlotte Morris, Luka Morris, RJ Edwards and Rumani Edwards. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Janice Marie Murphey Trulson; and his parents Edwin F. Trulson of Enumclaw, WA, and Catherine R. Waddell Trulson of Jacksonville, FL.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Lumpkin Rd in Augusta. A Funeral Service will be held at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 2:00pm followed by Interment, with full military honors, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta, GA.
