Barbara S. Hobbs, 92, was born April 10, 1933, in Soperton, GA. She will be remembered as a faithful, inspirational woman whose life reflected devotion, compassion and steady love for the people God placed in her path. Barbara will be remembered not only as a beautiful wife and beloved mother, but also as a woman who consistently extended grace and mercy to others, leaving behind precious memories that mark a life well lived.
Barbara was a devoted and compassionate woman of God who loved her Lord and loved serving Him and His people. She cherished family gatherings and treasured times of singing around the piano with family and friends. She was known as a great cook, and she found joy in serving others—quietly, sincerely, and with a kindness that made people feel seen and cared for. Her life carried a redeeming quality in the way she encountered others, and her Christlike character—kind, caring and compassionate—impacted many.
Barbara is survived by her sons, Mike Hobbs (Rosie) of Athens, TN, Ronnie Hobbs (Debi) of Milledgeville, GA, and Stanley Hobbs (Donna) of Eatonton, GA; her grandchildren, Melanie Hobbs, Josh Hobbs (Sarah), Jared Hobbs, Ben Hobbs (Sarah), Brad Hobbs (Tessa), Dena Stancil (Phillip), and Michelle Truitt (Jason); her great-grandchildren, Sophia Reagan, Ryne Hobbs, Hallie Hobbs, Caroline Hobbs, Emily Hobbs, Hannah Hobbs, Ella Hobbs, Caylin Stancil, Suzi Kate Stancil, Ally Stancil, River Truitt, Riggins Truitt, and Ripp Truitt; her sister, Patricia Duggan; and a number of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Mary Stephens; her husband, Luther M. Hobbs, Jr.; her brothers, Buddy, Mack and Harold Stephens; and her sisters, Doris Perry and Sandra Duggan.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday, March 19, 226 at the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Silvercrest Baptist Church, Augusta, GA, or Victory Baptist Church, Milledgeville, GA, US.
