Henry Elwyne Rabun, Sr. went to be with his Lord on September 25th. He was 88 years old. His dear wife of 70 years, Edith, preceded him in death in 2019. Elwyne was raised in the CSRA and went to high school at Richmond Academy where he was a gifted football player. He met Edith while in high school, married and had four children. They attended Bayvale Baptist Church and lived in South Augusta for most of their married lives. Elwyne became an expert electrician and used his electrical skills to develop a career as an elevator mechanic and adjuster with Dover Elevator Company. He and Edith loved bowling together in leagues at the Master Bowling Lanes. They also enjoyed raising racing pigeons, hunting, fishing, and spending many weekends at their lake house entertaining family and friends. Elwyne was a devoted family man, a Mason, a southern gentleman who possessed a contagious sense of humor. Elwyne also was always ready for a good card game, chess match, or golf outing as well as helping family members in need, watching his DAWGS play football, or fixing something out in his shop. Elwyne spent the last three years of his life at Morningside Assisted Living where he made many good close friends and was frequently found playing bingo and card games with them. There Elwyne was known as Mr. Henry.
Elwyne was preceded in death by not only by his parents, William Robert and Era Turner Rabun, and his wife Edith Rabun, but by two sigblings, William Robert (Bobby) Rabun, Jr. and Judy Rabun Hoover. Sadly, two of his children also preceded him in death, Stephanie Rabun Stephens (Philip] and Lynda Rabun Grigg (Ricky). He leaves behind one sibling, Athena Rabun Dorn (Clyde) and two children, Henry Elwyne Rabun, Jr. D.M.D. (Julie) and Janice Rabun Duncan (Wendell). He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff and friends at Morningside Assisted Living and his caregiver during his final days, Ashley Warthen. She was such a blessing to us all.
The family will receive visitors at Elliot’s Funeral Home on Lumpkin Rd. from 1:00 to 1:50 pm Thursday, September, 30th. The funeral will be at Elliot’s Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm September 30th . Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
