Joyce grew up in Miami, Florida, and in her senior year moved to Gainesville, Fl where she graduated from Gainesville High School. She then attended the nursing program at University of Florida where she met John whom she married on June 15, 1957 and a year later started their family.
Two work accomplishments Joyce enjoyed were first, her time at Flav-O-Rich Laboratory where she was a tester of milk and milk products and received her analyst permit in 1989 and second, was her work at St. Vincent’s Hospital in patient accounting with Saint Catherine Manor, where she retired after 20 years of devoted service.
Joyce enjoyed many hobbies. She was an avid reader, sometimes reading a book in one day. She enjoyed quilting, basket weaving, jewelry making, and in 2010 became a master beekeeper from Clemson University. Joyce was a great cook and fed her family well, handing down through the generations, a love of good food, cooking, and baking.
Joyce was a devout Christian with a very deep faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She became an elder at Murray Hill Presbyterian Church in 1987 where she had been a member since the 1950’s. Joyce earned the nickname of “Saint” because she lived her life for God and truly walked the walk. Her faith was unwavering. She never worried!!! She just didn’t!!! Joyce’s favorite song was “ It Is Well With My Soul” and this is how she truly lived her life.
Further notice will be forthcoming about a Celebration of Life to honor our mother.
