

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Leonard Bernard McKellar, Jr., 67, beloved husband of Kay Greenway McKellar, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at University Hospital. He was born the son of the late Leonard B. McKellar, Sr. and Lucy Mims McKellar. He was known by his family to be a generous, loving, and humble man, but many also knew him as Mr. Butler High School, where he was part of the first graduating class in 1963. Len was on the State of Georgia All Star Football Team, and he was the first Butler football player to be awarded a football scholarship. He attended the University of Tennessee, where he graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Management while playing Tight End and Defensive End for the VOLS. After graduation, Len worked with Kimberly-Clark in Florida, California, and Wisconsin. In 1976, he returned to Augusta to work in the family business. Mr. McKellar was a member of Fleming Baptist Church. Len was the cherished father of his children, Shelly McKellar Allen and her husband, Mike, Jennifer McKellar, Alex McKellar, and Sarah McKellar; Also surviving is sister, Pat Boulis and her husband, Rob of Portage, MI; grandchildren, Brynn Allen, Emory Allen, and Gage Holden; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Greenway and wife, Sharon, Carl Greenway and wife, Brenda; nieces and nephews, Kevin Boulis, Angela Dumler, Erin Greenway, Justin Greenway, Josh Greenway, Charlotte Greenway, Jacob Greenway, Grace Greenway, and Caroline Greenway; and lifelong dear friend, Helen Zimmerman. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Fleming Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Atkins officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tommy Mims, Benny Mims, Jimmy Greenway, Carl Greenway, James Crouch, and Mitch Kirkendohl. The family will receive friends Friday, September 28, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Lumpkin Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fleming Baptist Church 3027 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, GA 30906. Len was very passionate in his love and support of the University of Tennessee.
