

Hephzibah, GA- Mr. Victor Rivera-Quiles (Piloto) passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016 at the age of 88. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, He served in the 65th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed Borinqueneers. On April 13, 2016, the 65th infantry Regiment (Borinqueneers) were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor in Washington, D.C. Victor served in the U.S Army from 1951-1971. He graduated from Drill Sergeant School, the Noncommisioned Officers Academy, the Counter guerrilla Warfare and Airborne Schools. During his military service, he earned several medals, including the Army Commendation Medal, First and Second Oak Leaf Cluster for distinguishing himself by meritorious service. After his retirement, Victor worked at Garret Aviation for over 10 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic church for over 30 years.
Victor was born on October 14, 1928 in Corozal, Puerto Rico. He is survived by his loving children; son, Victor Rivera; daughters, Ivette Rivera and Sonia Rivera Miller; daughter-in-law, Elsie Morales Rivera; son-in-law, Tom Robarts; granddaughters, Michelle Beck and Lacey Miller; sister, Carmen Belen Rivera; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Demetria Rivera.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2016 at the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends at 1PM until the service hour. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park with military honors.
