Dorothy – known by many as Dottie or Dot – was the youngest of four children growing up on her family’s farm. By the time she was in her early teens, the family moved to Colorado Springs. She graduated from Lewis Palmer High School in 1962. She worked as a beautician before moving into food service, working for many years as a deli manager for King Soopers before retiring around 2007.
Dot had two sons, Ken and Larry, whom she raised primarily as a single parent. Her constant companion was her sister Sherry, who lived nearby most of their lives. Their children grew up together, with Dottie and Sherry raising them together and enjoying fun times with each other and family. They especially liked going to the casinos in Central City and traveling.
Dottie will always be remembered for her devotion to her family, and for opening her heart and home to anyone who needed help. She was a vibrant, strong, hard-working and happy woman, who always had a song to sing and was ready to dance. She had a tremendous positive influence on neighbors, friends and co-workers, in addition to her family, for whom she laid a solid foundation of good values.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Rosie Brunt; her siblings Charlie Brunt Jr., Claudine Lee (Ernest); brother-in-law John Adams; grandson Keegan; and her nephew Tony Wynn who was her care-provider for three years.
She is survived by her sons Kenny Harris (Rebecca), and Larry Harris (Jayme); her sister Sherry Adams; grandchildren Bailee, Kenzie, Taylor, Christian, and Rogan; nephews Deric (Nancy) and Eric (Heidi), Jimmy (Tenisha), Bruce (Brenda); niece Tanya (John); great niece Alex and great nephew Caden.
A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, April 22, at 11 a.m. at The Lighthouse Community Center, 27301 S. Southshore Drive in Aurora.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.AdvantageAurora.com for the HARRIS family.
