A Tribute to a Wonderful Life

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lillian Eda Mooney, a beloved mother, great grandmother, and friend. She left us peacefully on December 30th, 2025 after a life well-lived, filled with love, compassion, and endless dedication to her family and friends.

Early Life and Family

Lillian Eda Mooney was born on September 9th, 1935 in Windsor, Ontario Canada. She was the cherished daughter of Ferdinand and Matylda Kilbrei. From a young age, she spent much of her time with her mother, learning how to cook and spending time with her at her job.

Career and Contributions

Lillian was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a woman of talent and determination. She pursued a career in nursing, graduating from Victoria Hospital School of Nursing. While in nursing school, she met two other classmates which became her dearest friends, June Theadore and June Bowman.

Marriage and Family

Lillian travelled to California to visit her friend, June Theadore. Through her friend June and her boyfriend Jack, Lillian met her future husband, Bob. During her three week visit in California, she spent most of that time with Bob. Lillian would return to Windsor but for only a short time; in three months she moved to California and to Bob.

On December 28th, 1963, Lillian Mooney married the love of her life, Robert Mooney. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising 2 children with unwavering love and dedication. Her children, Christopher and Elizabeth, were the pride and joy of her life, and she took immense pleasure in watching them grow and succeed.

Being a single child and not having more than her parents growing up, she enjoyed being with Bob’s family during the holidays and on any occasion that presents itself. She was extremely happy when they came out to visit her in Las Vegas and in Denver. She loved to talk about family and events, enjoying their company.

Passions and Hobbies

Lillian had a wide range of interests and passions that brought joy to her life. She enjoyed cooking, needle pointing, reading books, magazines and newspapers, watching news shows and comedies, following Queen Elizabeth and the royal family, being a proud Canadian and citizen of the Commonwealth. She was also a fierce conservative, believing in family values, expecting her family to be honest, self-sustaining and loving.

One of Lee’s most prized memories was when she was a young girl, stood on the curb and watching Princess Elizabeth’s parade. Lillian would read, watch and collect everything about the Queen, follow the Queen’s families. She had the chance to visit Buckingham Palace and would talk about that experience for hours.

Lillian did needle pointing for a while. Sitting down for hours working on many projects. She was proud of her accomplishments and displayed the pillows in her living room and woe be the person that would lay on them. Today those pillows are decorating her son’s living room.

Lillian loved to decorate her home and make it as welcoming as possible. When Bob retired, they moved to Las Vegas and built their dream home. She loved designing and laying out the home. She created a kitchen, dining room and kitchen nook that she would use for hours on end.

In Las Vegas, she created her rose garden that she always wanted. She handpicked and planted various types of roses. Lillian would spend hours caring for her roses and would have a fresh bouquet of flowers on the table.

Legacy and Memories

After Bob’s passing, she moved in with her son, Christopher, and daughter-in-law, Laurie, whom she called her daughter. Lillian enjoyed the last years of her life living with her son. She was very thankful for the support and love when she lost her daughter, Elizabeth, in 2023.

Lee would also make sure that her family was taken care of. She would fight occasionally argue with her son and daughter to make sure that she was given receipts for expenses that occurred. She would demand that she pay her way even when she was told not to worry about it. Lillian also would help charities through cash support until the very end. Even when she had her son handle the finances, notes would be made to ensure that this charity and that charity would be supported.

Lillian loved to play and watch her great-granddaughter, Autumn. She would have a huge smile and would laugh watching her great-granddaughter play with Bob’s rubber ducks. making them squeak and Big-Boy piggy bank, sorting through the coins, pushing Lillian’s walker around and disciplining grandpa.

Her last Thanksgiving, she enjoyed the entire family being there with her. She sat at the head of the table smiling and talking with everyone. Lee talked about that event until her end.

She leaves behind a son and daughter-in-law that she loved very much and they loved her equally so. Lillian's legacy is one of love, kindness, and selflessness. She was a loving wife and mother. She leaves behind a wealth of cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of her family and friends. Her guiding principles will be passed on to future generations.

A Final Farewell

A memorial service celebrating the life of Lillian Mooney, Robert Mooney and Elizabeth Mooney will be held in late June in a Denver Colorado. Family and friends are invited to attend and share their memories and create new memories.

Our hearts are heavy with grief, but we are comforted by the knowledge that Lillian lived a life filled with love and purpose. She has left an indelible mark on all who knew her, and her memory will be cherished forever. Rest in peace, dearest Lillian Mooney. You have been a blessing in our lives, and you will never be forgotten.
