Darcy Lee David Flynn passed away unexpectedly on December 23, 2025, leaving behind a family and a large group of friends who loved him deeply and who will always keep him in their hearts. He was born on February 12, 1958, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal, Quebec.
Darcy was predeceased by his parents, Peter Lee Flynn and Margaret Dupuis (Flynn), and his brothers, Peter (Louise) and Richard Flynn.
He is survived by his brothers Michael Flynn (Maggie) and Marty Flynn (Ann), his sister Kathryn Flynn, and his sister-in-law Nancy Flynn. Darcy was a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews: Scott (Suzi), Christine, Tom (Melissa), Michelle, Bryan (Jennifer), Liane, David (Jared), Mark (Jacquelyn), and Amanda (Chris). He was a proud and loving great-uncle to his grandnieces and grandnephews: Declan, Riordan, Rowen, Jack, Stella, Scarlett, Emmett, Aiden, and Justine.
Darcy touched the lives of many beyond his immediate family, holding a special place for Sarah (Andrew), Otis, Miles, Nigel, Eveline Maksoud and cousins Anne Alper, Mary Fairhurst, Patricia Gerrie and Margaret Dudley. He was always the first to reach out with messages for birthdays, anniversaries, and life’s important moments—making others feel seen and celebrated. Without fail, he was present in the crowd, cheering on family and friends—siblings, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews—at sporting events, dance competitions, and the many milestones in between.
Darcy graduated from St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and spent his professional career centred on supporting and helping students in post-secondary education. His career included roles at St. Mary’s University and the University of New Brunswick, followed by the University of Windsor, and then proudly at Ryerson University (Toronto Metropolitan University), where he retired in 2023.
He forged cherished, meaningful, and enduring friendships all over the country through his involvement with the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities (1991 Founders Award) and the Association of Managers in Canadian College, University and Student Centres (2022 Builders Award). He was deeply respected and admired by his peers for his outstanding work and contributions.
Darcy’s humour, quirks, and quick-witted jabs created a relaxed atmosphere where he could talk, listen, and discuss challenging issues, and he was always available to “have a shout.” Close friends were part of his family, and he was fiercely loyal to them and to the causes that mattered most. A strong root in a fast-growing family tree, Darcy carried the Flynn name with pride.
Darcy will be remembered for the role he played in the Flynn family—steady, familiar, and always there. His absence will be deeply felt, but his memory will live on through the generations of family who will carry him with them.
At his request, cremation has taken place, and a private family ceremony will follow, where Darcy will join his parents in his beloved Montreal.
