After a lengthy struggle with dementia and a recent battle with cancer, Delores passed away on Wednesday, March 12th, 2025, in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada and was welcomed into the arms of her loving Saviour and awaiting family.
Daughter to the late Joseph and Mary DeBartolo. Devoted mother to Donna (Bill Ballantyne), Marian (deceased), Elisabeth (deceased) (Bernabe Bosco) and Rick. Loving grandmother (Nonna) to Jeff (Bethany), Lauren (Christian), David (Anne), Sarah (Alex), Ethan, Christian (deceased), Marcus and Olivia. Adoring great-grandmother (Bisnonna) to November, Callum, Wesley, Judah, Eliav, Damian, Andre, Dominic, Angelo, Nalani, Augustine and Lilo. Sister to Frank (Mina) DeBartolo, Thomas DeBartolo (deceased) and Nell (Ron) Orlando.
Delores was born May 9, 1939 in Taranto, Italy. Her family moved to Toronto, Canada in 1953. They settled in the city and operated a family run grocery store. Delores flourished in academics and was very popular socially. At an early age she began her banking career as a much needed bilingual teller. As devout Christians, her family were active in the Italian Pentecostal Church in Toronto.
Many suitors vied for Delores' attention, but Frank Liuzzi, an electrical contractor won out. They were married in 1960 and began growing their family. Tragically, leukemia claimed her 2nd daughter, Marian, by the age of 4.
A “Daddy’s girl”, she remained in Toronto as her beloved family moved to San Jose, California. This was a difficult condition of life, missing her parents and siblings whom she has always adored. Fending for herself by the age of 51, Delores, formally a pastor’s wife, remained loyal to her family and to God Almighty, never wavering in the principles of her faith in Christ Jesus, always giving thanks in the midst of heartache and rejoicing in the eternal rewards waiting for her in the presence of her Heavenly Father.
Once again tragedy struck when her 3rd daughter, Elisa, passed on at the early age of 50. The heaviness of her heart would try to best her, but her faith was stronger. She was instant in prayer, praise and thanksgiving and quick to quote her favourite Bible verses. She was an enthusiastic host, a traditionalist and a culinary artist who served up delectable Italian dishes for a variety of family and social functions. She was a competent seamstress and known to be an adaptive fashionista.
She has been uncommonly blessed with posterity and extended family that will honour and cherish her memory for generations to come.
As a Christian, it was her desire that her loved ones and all whom she has had acquaintance would share her faith saying, “believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:31
In lieu of flowers and in her memory donations would be greatly appreciated by Delores’ family to Margaret Bahen Hospice. https://www.myhospice.ca/donate/
