It is with profound sadness that we announce Desmond Patrick Fitzsimons passed away peacefully on February 20, 2023, at North York General Hospital at the age of 90. He was a loving and devoted father to his two daughters, Joanne East (Nick) and Andrea Fitzsimons (Don), and his son, Rodney Fitzsimons, and a cherished grandfather to his two grandchildren, Colin and Jack. Des was born to the late Patrick and Josephine Fitzsimons (née Wall) in Montréal, Québec, where he met and married his wife of almost 60 years, Barbara Fitzsimons (née McCauley). He is predeceased by his brother, Raymond Fitzsimons, and survived by his brother, Kevin Fitzsimons, and sister, Geraldine Darcus. Des will be lovingly remembered by his wife, his children, his siblings, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora on Friday, March 10, 2023 from 10:00 am until the time of the Memorial Service at 11:00 am, a small reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to North York General Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in honour of Des would be appreciated.
