

Don was born in Fredericton New Brunswick to Ken and Kay Campbell, and spent his early childhood in Oromocto and Fredericton. He graduated from Fredericton High School and went “Up the Hill”
to complete his degree in Civil Engineering at the University of New Brunswick in 1959. Don immediately put his Engineering skills to work initially with Irving, and then became Vice President of the Saint John Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. at the age of 26. Don went on to spend the rest of his career the Mining and Oil industry, moving first to Toronto, and then in 1970 to Guatemala City as Executive VP of Basic Resources International S.A. and President of Transmetales Ltda. & Recursos del Norte. He returned to Canada and settled in Thornhill Ontario, taking on a role as Vice President with Denison Mines, where he retired in 2012 after 31 years at Denison capping off an illustrious career spanning more than 53 years.
Don took great joy in each of his 6 grandchildren, who were always welcome at Grand-dad’s back-yard, swimming pool and legendary barbeques. He and Delia always looked forward to their annual stays in Puerto Vallarta where for over 30 years they welcomed many family members and friends. They also enjoyed traveling and cruising. Don was life long Blue Jays fan from their first ever home game, a volunteer with the Newmarket Lions Club Kindergarten vision screening program, and with Trinity Anglican Church Aurora.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Delia, his brother, Gordon Campbell (Sheryl) of Nepean Ontario, his children, Peter of Calgary, Wendy Comishen (Jim) of Barrie, Barbara of San Jose California, Delia Maria De Luca (Frank) of Newmarket, and Richard of Newmarket. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Jessica (Essber), Mark, Michael (Kristen), Jennifer (Richard), Jason, and Monica (Mike), along with several nieces and nephews, and many long-time friends.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held beginning with visitation from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday, June 9th at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora Ontario. This will be followed by a funeral service on Friday, June 10th at 11 AM at Trinity Anglican Church, 79 Victoria Street, Aurora Ontario.
As an alternative to flowers, donations can be made in Don’s memory to The Arthritis Society, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
