He will be forever missed by his family - daughter Suzanne and husband George, son Don and wife Diane and son Dave as well as his grandsons Matt and Nathan, Don's sister Margaret and his nephews and nieces. Don is predeceased by his wife Joan (Jo) and his grandson Josh, as well as his parents Alf and Ida.
Don grew up in small town Beeton and loved to tell of us his adventures there. Including the chicken coop adventure with his sister Marg. After moving to Concord he went to high school in Richmond Hill. He spent his summers showing cattle at the exhibitions which is where he met his future wife, Jo, at the CNE.
They moved to Aurora in 1958 where they lived in the same home for all those years. Don was extremely involved in minor baseball while his sons were growing up and had an active part in building the first ball diamond in Fleury Park. Many nights were spent coaching ball games in the local parks. He also coached many minor league hockey teams and was always available for those early morning practices and games.
And of course, no one can forget Don the DJ. So many town dances and weddings were celebrated with Don as the DJ for the event.
Don spent his life working in the printing industry, first as a pressman then as a power salesman. His co-workers and friends from the industry will miss him greatly.
Everyone who met Don loved him. He always had a huge smile and usually an entertaining story to tell. He was a social butterfly who loved being out and about meeting people and talking about everything and anything.
Don was the rock of our family and the one we turned to for advice, comfort, wisdom, hugs and his never ending humour.
Be at peace, Dad, We will miss you always and forever.
Due to restrictions there will not be a service at this time. We will celebrate Don's wonderful life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in Don's memory.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ThompsonFH-Aurora.com for the Holdgate family.
