Gwendoline Doris Scully

Gwen Scully passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024 at AMICA Swan Lake in Markham. Gwen was 101 years old and was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Jim; daughter Veronica and son in law Ivor. She is survived by her daughter Moira, son in law John, grandchildren Matthew, James, Jennifer & Jane and great grandchildren Luca, Aaron Ryan and Rui.

Gwen was born and raised in the village of Bampton, Oxfordshire, England. Her mother was the housekeeper in a local manor house and, at the age of 14, Gwen left school to become a housemaid. At the advent of WW2, Gwen transferred to “war work” and joined an aircraft manufacturer making precision gyroscopes.

Gwen and Jim married during the war and subsequently settled in Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire with their two daughters. Gwen became a very popular cook at the local Berndene Primary School, and was affectionately known as “cookie” by multiple generations of students and staff.

Gwen and Jim moved to Canada in 1990 and, after Jim’s passing, Gwen spent 20 very happy years at AMICA Swan Lake. A special thank you is owed to all of the staff at AMICA, who made Gwen’s time there a wonderful experience.

In lieu of flowers, Gwen requested that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

A funeral service for Gwendoline will be held Friday, September 20, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Trinity Anglican Church, 79 Victoria St, Aurora, ON L4G 1R3.
