November 25, 1919 – March 8, 2017
Peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre with her daughter and grandson at her side, Tommy passed away after a seven-year struggle with dementia. Born in Abercwmboi, South Wales; Tommy emigrated to Canada in 1948 as a nurse under the George Drew scheme. A long-time member of Dewi Sant Welsh United Church in Toronto, Tommy kept her love of all things Welsh alive, marrying a Welshman named Peter Edwards and being an active participant in the social and spiritual life of the church community.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Peter and sister Marian, Tommy leaves behind loving daughter Jane (Parker), grandson James (Nikki), granddaughter Alexandra, dogs Henry and Ellie and cat Fergus. She is also survived by her older sister Eleanor who turned 101 this year, and by many real and honorary nieces and nephews.
So much love and gratitude goes out to “honorary daughter” Anna Turchiaro and the CCHC WeCare PSWs who helped care for Tommy over the past 7 years- especially Marlene and Grace. Huge thanks also to CCHC RN Robert Lees who tended to Tommy’s health needs.
At Tommy’s request cremation has taken place. An interment at Aurora Cemetery will be held on Saturday May 6 at 1:30 PM followed by a Celebration of Life at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway S. Aurora, ON. L4G 6W8 905-727-5421 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Donations to Community Living Ontario in Tommy’s memory in lieu of flowers gratefully appreciated.
