Papa was a man always happy to see you, always welcoming, and always kind. 
A constant memory I have of him is sitting in his backyard with the rest of the family, jovially tossing peanuts to the chipmunks, blue jays, and squirrels. It was always such a humble thing, but I think it summed him up well, a lover of nature and a kindness for the small things in life. 

I think a lot of my own interest with animals and nature came from him and the moments he shared with me. In that way he’ll always be around.

I got to know Hart in the late 70's thru my girlfriend Kathy, (now my wife of 41 years) who lived across the road from Hart and Rita, Judy and Tracy. Spent many fishing trips with Hart and my Father-in-law Earl Gallaugher to many different lakes.  Not sure if we caught fish at all of them but sure have hundreds of memories, lots of laughs, and good times.   Spent many years and adventures hunting with Hart, at the camps, playing cards at night, and telling numerous stories.  Hart, all the guys will miss you.  Happy hunting and fishing.

    I have known Hart for all my life. 
My parents took Hart in as a boarder when he started school in Toronto, I was 8 mths old at that time. He worked out to stay in shape and when he did his push-ups I road him like a horse for 100 push-ups every night. 
   As time passed he went on as a plumber/steamfitter;  found a girl and married her, Rita.  They went on with their lives and I went on with my education. We stayed in touch through his and my parents at the cottage. 
   Started hunting with Hart in my mid teens and after 8-9 years  we built a camp on his lot and all material had been snowmobiled in, at -30 below zero. 
   When I married my wife, Sharon; we would get together with Hart and Rita for meals (experimented with many meals and desserts) and serious card playing. (cribbage and eucher) men against woman. Over many many card games over many years I think it was a draw who had more wins or losses; many very happy times.
   Over all the years we did and accomplished many things, with many laughs together.
   We talked many times in the bush about our families wives, children, parents, and our past relationship. We also talked about what we accomplished together over all the years and how we could also cure all of the world whoas. P.S. I kidded him many times if I could get on his back at 200 lbs and he would do his 100 push-ups again.  Not a Hope.
  We grew tight like two brothers by different mothers.
I'm now 73 and have many many great memories of us and will cherrish them for the rest of my life.
  You will be leaving a very large hole in our lives, and will be forever thought of and missed.
You are now back with Rita and become whole again together,  who you have missed so very much since she had passed.
      Happy hunting Hartley now with your Dad and "Good Luck".  
(was said every time as we left the camp).

Dad lived in Aurora for over 60 years but he was a northern boy at heart.  He grew up in Northern Ontario and Muskoka. He loved to fish and hunt and work in the bush building tree stands and his hunt camp. His generation of hunters are now gone but Paul and the younger lads are there to carry on.
I'm sure they have stories to tell about Dad and the old gang if not for the unspoken code, "What happens at the hunt camp, stays at the hunt camp".
Well Dad, Tracy and I are certain if there is a heaven, there is a tree stand waiting just for you!

Dad had a knack for making friends wherever he went. His cheerful greeting, "Its a beautiful day" will be remembered fondly by many and earned him the nick name "Mr. Rogers" from his friends at Sunrise in Aurora.

Our family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise Aurora, Amica Newmarket and Eagle Terrace for taking such good care of Dad. Special heart felt thank you to Chelsea and Ana who were with Dad when he passed on.
