July 22, 1935 – October 24, 2015
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence (Larry) Anderson on October 24th. Son of Irene (nee Purcell) and Allan Anderson (deceased). Beloved husband of Jill (nee Callaghan), father of Kellie, Shawn, Ryan and proud Grandfather of Maggie Kat. Lovingly remembered by his surviving siblings, Iva Ballantyne and Rita Cameron. Larry graduated from Queens University, with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1958. After working on a number of Engineering contracts including the Trethewey bridge in Toronto and the Champlain Bridge in Ottawa, Larry became the General Manager of the Canadian subsidiary of US Gypsum . Fulfilling a lifelong dream, Larry started his own company in 1970. A pioneer entrepreneur, he created Abacus Industrial Equipment which was ultimately split into to two companies, Aecometric Corporation, an Engineering Company specializing in Combustion and Conamara Limited, a manufacturing Company. Both companies have been running strong for 40 years with equipment in operation worldwide. Larry was the author of numerous technical papers and articles. He was on the board of Queens University for Combustion and worked closely with both NRC and the Ontario Research Foundation. Larry traveled the world for business, but was happiest on his tractor at his horse farm in Aurora, Ontario. A strong family man, he was a natural born leader and an inspiration to many.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held in the Spring of 2016 in conjunction with an interment in the Lombardy, Ontario area. Messages to the family can be forwarded to Thompsons’s funeral home in Aurora Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shawn Anderson’s Movember Team for prostate cancer research http://mobro.co/shawnmoanderson
