Michel Georges Julien Vibien

Michel Georges Julien VIBIEN passed away peacefully in Newmarket, Ontario on Friday, December 29th, 2023 at the age of ninety-three years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Louise (née Corner), his parents, Raymond and Lucienne VIBIEN, and his sister Janine ANCEL.

Michel will be lovingly remembered by his sons Georges (Nathalie) and Patrick (Elizabeth), his daughter Catherine, and his five grandchildren Philippe, Christoph, Claire, Emily and Hannah. Michel also leaves behind his brother Gérard VIBIEN in Montreal, his sister Françoise Garraud in France, his nieces and nephew in both Canada and France, and dear friends and other family around the world.

Michel was born in 1930 in the Shanghai French Concession, where he spent his childhood. He travelled back to France in 1946 and finished his studies in Versailles, Brussels and Paris. Following completion of his military service in Algeria as an officer of the infantry division of the Foreign Legion, he came to Canada in 1957 and began his career in the financial sector. After his marriage in 1962, he settled in Westmount, Quebec where he spent nearly sixty years until his departure to Aurora, Ontario in July 2019.

In his retirement, Michel spent much of his time doing volunteer work at the Mackay Rehabilitation Centre for deaf and motor-impaired children by assisting teachers in French classes and repairing wheelchairs in the workshop. He also took numerous trips abroad to explore different cultures and visit family and friends.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed fixing things around the house and had a passion for classical music, reading and food (French and Chinese in particular). He also found great pleasure in hiking with friends and family in the national parks of Canada and the United States.
