It is many years since my path last crossed with Pearse but I was greatly saddened to hear of his passing. He was a real gentleman; always firm and fair when dealing with those of us who  mistakenly thought we knew the rules of the game better and always cheerful and enthusiastic after the game!  Very sorry to hear of the passing of my great friend Peare. We were close friends since playing youths rugby with Galwegians in the Seventies.  I had the privilege of being best man at Pearse and Miriam’s wedding and what a wonderful partnership they made. Rest well my friend and keep a place on the  team for me when we meet again. If you played, coached or refereed rugby in Ontario or Canada in the past or recently. There was a good chance you would run into Pearse. Welcoming and quick with a smile you felt at home. Had occasion to be a match official several times with Pearse.  A fond memory I have, is coming into the Referee's changing room before a game to find him stretch out on the  floor doing these curious stretches for a back issue he was having at the time. They seem to work cause his back issue didn't effect his refereeing . Pearse you will be missed. 

Pearse will always have a special place in  our hearts and memories. We remember with fondness his trips home to Ireland, as well as our family trip to Canada, where we had such a wonderful time with the Higgins clan. We remember Pearse's warmth, generosity, and keen sense of fun, and we remember his close friendship with our own departed Pearse.

I knew Pearse throughout his refereeing career. Indeed I think I encouraged him to take up the whistle, when as a player for the Irish 3rds, he often gave advice to the referee (me).

I first met Pearse in a national rugby final when he justly penalized me for a head butting penalty in a scrum. I remember his abmonishment to this day.

Laterly, I got to know him when we were both members of the Rugby Canada board. He was kind, charming and always able to generate a laugh. It was a pleasure to be in his company.

He made strong and significant contributions to the sport of rugby in Canada and made lasting friendships across the country and the globe. 

He is gone too soon. To his family and legion of friends I am sorry for your loss! May the many memories of him bring you comfort.

Our sincerest sympathies are with you Miriam and also your family on the passing of Pearce.   I remember Pearce fondly as he  had the best radio voice.  When he would call Miriam's place of work and ask to speak with her his voice was full of kindness and depth and I just sensed he was a  very kind thoughtful pleasant personality always.
Always allow the loving memories to help you through this time, and notice the strength and reassurance in these moments.

I always looked forward to Pearse's visits home from his time in the merchant navy, I was presented with the latest in fashion from his trips round the world. Pearse brought me to my first international in Landstowne  road, v the All Blacks. My visit to Toronto as a young innocent student resulted in a treasured Irish Canadian rugby shirt. A true Irishman, Connacht to the bone, loved to laugh and share the stories of what life offered good or bad. Very privallage to say he was my cousin. To Miriam and family I offer my deepest of condolences, he was a good one, R.I.P

Pearce was a kind and generous gentleman with a great sense of humour and it is  sad to learn of his passing . To Miriam and family please accept sincere condolences from Gwen and I. Pearse was the ideal rugby man. A wholehearted, supportive teammate who contributed on the field and off the field. His yeoman service to the sport in so many categories was quite remarkable. Besides that, his sense of humour and unconditional friendship were ever present on all rugby and social occasions.
His presence will certainly be missed by all.

Pearse made a significant contribution to the betterment of refereeing in Canada from grassroots to the International level. He was a referee that looked to always make the right decision with the goal of ensuring enjoyment for all. Most importantly being able to laugh with his referee colleagues when our decisions on the field were slightly off. A good man with a heart in the right place. My prayers are with you Miriam and your family. 

Sad loss of my good rugby and squash partner. I will cherish my memories of our time together on the field and the courts .
