Rachelle is survived by her parents, John and Miju, her 2 sisters Danielle and Melissa, brother Rob, and their families. Her beloved nephews Logan and Leo and her dog Charlie were very special to her and all brought her so much joy.
Her lifelong disability and struggle with Muscular Dystrophy did not dampen her spirit and commitment to succeed in her education and career aspirations.
Rachelle’s passion was her love of literature. She accomplished a PhD of Philosophy, focusing on Victorian literature and subsequently continued with teaching at York University. She was rarely without a book in hand and always quick to correct our many grammatical errors!
She was a teacher in many ways. We learned much from and will miss the engaging conversations and debates we would often have, amazed at her clarity of thought and the ease with which she formulated convincing and logical arguments. She also taught us patience, tolerance and kindness. Oh Rachelle, your warm wisdom will be so deeply missed.
Family was very important to Rachelle, and she always looked forward to gatherings at home or at the cottage to play games with family and friends. Rachelle loved watching movies and theatre and would often plan family trips to Stratford. She also loved animals and was a long-time contributor to animal foundations.
In lieu of flowers, Rachelle would have appreciated donations to World Wildlife Fund Canada or to the OSPCA Humane Society.
We invite all who want to celebrate her life to join us on December 12th, at 4pm-7pm at Thompson Funeral Home (530 Industrial Pkwy. S, Aurora).
