Samuel Sam James Hawkins

After a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Sam, 67, passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Palliative Care, on Friday, August 16, 2013, where a staff of angels cared for him.

Loving husband to Lynda, dad to Rob and his wife Carrie and Grandpa Sam to Josh and Dylan, brother to Jane and Jack Hawkins and David Wimbush, brother-in-law to Doug and Betty LaRiviere, Uncle Sam to David and Michael. Fondly remembered by his cousin Edie Wilson. Predeceased by his father Dave Hawkins and step-mother Grace (Potts).

Sam enjoyed a long career with the TDSB (Etobicoke Board of Education) in Media Services until his retirement in August, 2002 and a second career with Cardinal Golf Club as their Health and Safety Officer, retiring in May, 2012. If you couldn’t find Sam at work you knew he was on the golf course getting a few rounds in.

Thank you to all of Sam’s health care team at Southlake Palliative and Stronach Regional Cancer Centre and especially Dr. Arnell Baguio for his compassionate palliative care and Rev. Eric Schultz for his spiritual care.

Visitation will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, 905-727-5421 on Tuesday, August 20 from 1:00pm-3:00pm and on Wednesday, August 21 from 10:00am until the service of remembrance at 11am.

If so desired, donations to the Children’s Make-a-Wish would be appreciated by the family in lieu of flowers.
