Thomas Caldwell Munns

Thomas (“Tom”) Munns (born 1936) passed away peacefully at Meadows of Aurora, on Wednesday May 13, 2024, at age 87. He is survived by his wife Evangeline, his daughter Catherine, son-in-law Mark Hanson, his brother Robert Munns, nieces, other beloved family members and grandpuppy Maverick.

Tom is pre-deceased by his parents William Thomas Munns and Jean Gartshore (ne Wilson) Munns. Tom will be forever missed by his family and friends. Born and raised in Toronto, Tom later attended Ridley College where he quickly made life-long friends and excelled in athletics. He had many interests, including as a young man flying, equestrian riding, sailing, photography and camping. Tom was an avid sports fan, loved working with his hands, building projects at home and the cottage, and being outdoors. Tom also enjoyed rides on his motorcycle with his wife, skiing, boating, and adored spending time at the cottage with friends and family. He was a long-time employee of the Combined Insurance Company of America where he was a manager and enjoyed working there until his retirement. After retirement he continued to pursue his many interests.

Tom was loved by his family, friends, and colleagues and his loss will be felt by all who knew him. He was always up for a chat and valued humour, often quick with a joke to make someone smile or laugh. He delighted in connecting with others. His love for life, for his family, friends, the outdoors and his humour will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Tom’s family are very grateful for the thoughtful care he received from all of the nurses, PSWs, physicians and staff at Meadows of Aurora, his palliative care team, and Mackenzie Health who contributed to his well-being, comfort and happiness.

If you knew Tom, his work, or family you are most welcome and encouraged to join us. Visitation will take place: Friday May 24, 2024 at Thompson Funeral Home, Aurora, ON from 4-7pm. May 25, 2024,with an additional visitation from 11am until time of the Funeral Service held at 12 noon, with reception to follow.
