Trudi Anna Kuster Hamann

It is with great sadness that we must announce the sudden passing of Trudi Hamann, wife, mother, and grandmother to a family that loved her dearly.

As many of you know for the past three years Trudi had several health concerns and was always in the loving care of her husband, Hans. In spite of her physical decline, she and Hans enjoyed walks every day and spent their private time together talking and reminiscing about the good life they shared together in their 52 years of marriage. Her memory would at times fail her, she would perhaps forget a name but never the person; her warm love for her family and friends remained as strong as ever. Her appreciation for the beauty of the moment before her, of the people she loved and those she met a new, of nature, music and objects of art became even more palpable as anytime spent with Trudi would make the world seem a little brighter, even if you didn’t know why.

And now, it is with great difficulty we share of her tragic fall on Monday August 8th that left her paralyzed from the head down and on life support. She was cared for with loving kindness by the health professionals at South Lake Hospital and kept comfortable during the time needed to allow family to arrive for final goodbyes. As would have been her wish, she was gently released and allowed to pass on Tuesday August 9th with her family by her side - we said our goodbyes, sang a special Swiss lullaby that she used to sing to us all, we prayed for a peaceful passing and played her favourite classical music. A priest gave her a blessing and her last rites. For a moment in time, the room in ICU transformed into a sacred space, a refection of Trudi, a beautiful, kind, and loving person who always saw the good in everyone and everything. As tragic as her accident was, we acknowledge the grace with which Trudi was bestowed her final wish to pass on with her family around her and without pain or prolonged suffering. Trudi will remain forever in our hearts as we grieve and continue living our lives with her goodness and kindness as our guide.
