Albert E. Kurio was born January 6, 1930 in Serbin, Texas to Carl and Marie (Mathijetz) Kurio. Rev. Herman Schmidt, of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, baptized Albert on January 19, 1930 and confirmed him in the Lutheran Faith on April 18, 1943. His confirmation verse, John 5:24, reads “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.”
Albert was united in marriage to Delores (Noack) Kurio on October 24, 1959. Their marriage was blessed with three children.
Albert served in the United States Navy. After leaving military service he worked as a painter for many years, supporting his family with his talent. His notable accomplishments include re-gilding the University of Texas Clock Tower in 1968. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas where he served as an usher and working with the boy scouts. To Albert, family was everything; in his spare time, he could be found outside working on his ranch, lake fishing and coastal fishing with his relatives and friends; and his love for playing dominoes with his family and especially his grandchildren.
Albert joined his Heavenly Father on March 10th in Austin at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marvin Kurio; and his in-laws, Carl August and Alwine Noack.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Delores Kurio; three children, Kenneth Kurio of Austin, Floyd and Linda Kurio of Round Rock, and Karen and Daryl Noack of Giddings; five grandchildren, Matthew and Renee Noack, Sarah Noack, Alisha and Bobby Witt, Wade Kurio, and Katelyn Kurio; a great- grandson, Aysen Noack; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Wade Kurio, Matthew Noack, Clifford Kurio, Dennis Kurio, Russell Pampell and Jerry Hoskins. Honorary pallbearers will be Perry Hale and John Philips.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
On Thursday, March 15th, there will be a visitation with family and friends with cake and coffee served at 1:15PM and the funeral service will be held at 2:00PM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1500 West Anderson Lane, Austin, Texas.
Burial services will follow at 4:00 PM at Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund, 1500 West Anderson Lane, Austin, Texas 78757 or the Alzheimer Association (alz.org) in Albert’s name.
