

Alfred W. Wedel, age 88, of Austin, died peacefully at his home Friday, November 28, 2003. He was born March 1, 1915, in Milwaukee, WI. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Allen Wedel of Austin; four sons, Fred of Houston, Lawrence of Jonestown, Tom of Houston, Dan of California; two granddaughters, Janie Sowden of Hattiesburg, MS and Susan Walther of El Paso, TX; and 6 great grandchildren. Alfred was a man of many diverse talents and interests. He was a Mechanical Engineer with several patents to his credit and a lifetime member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Alfred was also a former pilot, lover of motorcycles and classic cars, boat builder, homebuilder and an accomplished violinist. His musical career included playing in a swing band in the 30s, and as a teenager he played violin with members of the Detroit Symphony. Other interests included extensive travel, astronomy, and good food! Alfred was an avid supporter of the Austin Symphony and the James Dick International Festival at Round Top. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2003 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
