Alice Marie Brown Bridges, age 94, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 14, 2017 in Austin, Texas. She was born to Fritz and Louise Zwerneman on March 18, 1923 in Lexington, Texas. She was baptized on April 8, 1923 by Pastor W. Mueller and confirmed at St. Peters in Lincoln, TX in 1936.
She touched the lives of so many children working as a nanny in her very young years, then teaching private Kindergarten for 15 years. After retiring with her husband they became forever available to assist their children in raising their families.
She loved God and her church, faithfully attending services and serving in many activities; Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher, Fisherman’s Club and Women of the Church.
A beautiful wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and amazing example in how to put God and family first and foremost …..Simple things made her happiest, family gatherings, dinner on Friday evenings with her brothers and sisters and their husbands and wives, and with her parents on Sunday evenings. An example of ultimate selflessness when she cared for our father after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer until he quietly slipped away after being tenderly tucked into bed and fed a piece of his favorite lemon cake.
“Thank you Mama for showing us the true meaning of “until death do us part”. Forever in our hearts we share the verse you shared so often with us: Psalm 121: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
Alice is preceded in death by her 1st husband, Charles Ray Brown who was killed in action during WWII and her 2nd husband of 54 years, Robert C Bridges, her son-in-law Sam Mason, her parents F.M & Louise Zwerneman, sister and brother-in-law Herbert & Lois Kasper, sister-in-law Joyce Zwerneman, brother Leroy Zwerneman, granddaughter Dee Ann Van Houten and husband Dale and 2 infant grandsons.
