Alice Jean Walker Edgar

Alice Jean Walker Edgar passed away peacefully March 2, 2009, after a brief illness. She was the only child of Alton Parker Walker and Julia Alice Glenn Walker and was born on January 22, 1932, a third generation Austinite. She attended the Austin Public Schools, graduating from Austin High in 1949. Their families were active members in Grace United Methodist Church, especially in the youth group where she met and fell in love with Robert "Bob" Martin Edgar, Jr. and they were married on December 11, 1950. She was a gifted seamstress and avid gardener, but the love of her life was her family. She is survived by her children, Carolyn Ann Edgar Storey (Austin), David Martin Edgar and his wife Gracye (Colorado); former husband, Robert "Bob" Edgar and wife Doris and former son-in-law, Robert "Bob" Storey. The lights of her life were her four grandsons, David Martin Edgar, Jr. (Colorado), Derek Martin Edgar (Colorado), Adam Parker Storey (Colorado), and Eric Madison Storey (College Station). Their "Memaw" was active in and attended every school and sporting activity. She never missed a chance to participate and cheer them on. Her faithful, long-time companion has been George W. Sanders, and his family embraced Alice as their own. Alice was a skillful, dedicated and loyal employee and served as an executive secretary for Child and Family Service, Girling Home Health Care, Parker Lane United Methodist Church and just retired from the Austin District Office of the United Methodist Church. She loved tremendously and was loved just as much. We take great comfort in knowing she left our loving arms to join the loving arms of Our Sweet Lord and those who went before her. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish South, 2620 S. Congress Avenue., led by her friends, the Reverend Linda Kessie and Reverend Sue White. Graveside services will follow at her family's burial site in Oakwood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Storey, Eric Storey, David Edgar, Jr., Derek Edgar, Ronnie Smith, and Bob Storey.
