

Aline Lay Rogers Aline Rogers, 94, of Austin passed peacefully from this life Wednesday July 28, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband: C.M. Rogers, father: William B. Lay, mother: Ada Montgomery Lay, brothers: Raleigh Lay and Wallace Lay, and sisters: Dora Thompson and Eulamaye Lord. Aline was born in Lockhart, Texas on January 30, 1910. She was a member of one of the founding families of Caldwell County and was very proud of her Texas cattle-ranching heritage. Her grandfather William Montgomery was a prominent early Texas cattleman whose adventures along the Chisholm Trail are chronicled in the University of Texas publication Trail Drivers of Texas. Shortly after her fathers death in 1914, the family relocated to Austin as her oldest sister began her studies at the University of Texas. After graduating from Austin High School, Aline attended the University of Texas as member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and continued a life-long association with the University and her sorority. Aline and her family joined the Central Christian Church shortly after their arrival in Austin and she was a devoted member of the Church along with her sisters for almost ninety years. She was married on December 5, 1936 to C.M. Rogers and celebrated their marriage throughout 60 years together. Aline supported both athletics and education by funding the C.M. Rogers Weight Room for the Texas Longhorn Baseball program in 1998 and also creating the Rogers Scholarship Program administered by the Central Christian Church. C.M. and Aline enjoyed a full and fun-filled life together of travel, bridge, dancing, friends and laughter. They were active in a number of dance clubs until their steps were slowed just a few years ago. Aline is survived by: her nephew William Thompson, his wife Retta and children, Stephen, Catherine, and Mark, her nephew Larry Lay, his wife Teresa and children, Allison, Cindy, and Melissa, her nephew John Lay his wife Jill and children Sally, Carl, Celeste, Stephanie, and Robert, and also by her sister-in-law Alice Lay. Aline is also survived by a number of long time friends from her many activities in Austin through the years. The family wishes to thank Dr. Kenneth Kroll and his staff for the many years of care and kindness and also the very special caregivers Aline has known during her illness. Visitation will be held on Saturday July 31st 5-6pm at the funeral home with graveside services 4pm Sunday August 1st at the Lockhart City Cemetery.
