

Amador was born on April 25, 1940 in Santa Maria, Texas, and he was reared in Harlingen, Texas until he graduated from Harlingen High School. He joined the Army, and served at the Thule Air Force Base in Greenland. He returned to Texas to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied business and philosophy.
Amador married his hometown sweetheart, Glendora Martinez, whom he met when he was sixteen. They made Austin their home and would raise their five children there.
Amador started his career as a manager at IBM and later ventured into real estate and started his own company, Sunbelt Realty & Investment Co. He had an unparalleled vigor for life and an unwavering devotion to his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, brother, uncle, and an inspiring mentor to many.
Amador was brilliant, thoughtful, sharp-witted, and had a loving generosity that will be cherished forever. He was said to always have a twinkle in his eye. He is survived by his beloved wife and dearest friend, Glendora de Leon; daughter, Norma Villarreal (and husband, Jeff); son, Alfredo Torrez; son, Amador "Mayo" de Leon, Jr (and wife, Pamela); daughter, Mercedes Arellano (and husband, Jay); son, Gerardo "Gerry" de Leon; and grandchildren, Michal, Lauren, Austin, Trey, Tony, Andi, Jackson, and Gabriel; his brothers and sisters, Jesse de Leon, Joe de Leon, Dora Garcia, Connie Colmenero, Rosie McCrady, Terrie Kreger, Rev. Edward de León, OMI.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and god-children.
Amador was preceded in death by his father, Jesus de León and mother, Dionicia de León.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd.
A funeral will be held at St. Austin's Catholic Church at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 16 with a reception at the Parish Hall at 4:30 PM. Amador will be buried at Austin Memorial Park.
The family is forever grateful to the tireless and compassionate efforts of Amador's medical team, including Dr. Steve Lewitton, Dana Clemons, and the nursing staff at St. David's Medical and Rehabilitation Centers, as well as the loving people of Hospice Austin's Christopher House.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Amador's name to Hospice Austin's Christopher House.
