Amye Ruth Rice Russell passed away on July 1, 2016 at the age of 98 years old. She was born on December 31, 1917, to Leonard and Nora Rice. She was raised in Venus, TX as the only girl with three older brothers. She married Jack L. Russell in 1945, after Jack had served in World War II in the Army Air Force. Amye and Jack were devoted to each other until the day he died. They had no children.
Amye was a remarkable woman. She was courageous as she worked and waited for Jack to come back home from the war. She was a business woman who worked many years and was requested for consultation by former co-employees even after she retired. She was the epitome of a strong woman, confident in herself and never letting anyone get the best of her. She was a woman before her time. Her family admired her greatly.
Amye is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, and her three brothers, Macon Rice, Herman Rice, and Daris Rice. She also was preceded in death seven days by her niece, Jean Rice Mann. She is survived by her niece Barbara Rice Key, great-nieces Debra Mann, Barbra Mann Wall, Becky Key Norsworthy, Linda Key Willingham, and by her great-nephew Greg Key.
Graveside services will be held at the Alvarado Glenwood Cemetery on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 2:00 in the afternoon.
