
To my Aunt Carmen and my cousins       I want to say that I'm so sorry I couldn't make it to the funeral. I wish I had my chance to say good bye to my favorite uncle.  Everytime I called him I would ask to speak to my favorite uncle and he would say yes this is Richard Gere can I help you. To me he was my Richard Gere. I know that he will greatly be missed and he left a lot of good things to remember him by. My tia Carmen I wish I was there to give you a great big hug and tell you thank you for being there for my uncle and I'm sorry for your loss. Its hard to take in the fact that I will never hear your voice again in this life or be able to do stuff around the house for you anymore.  I know now that things truly do happen for a reason. I'm thankful I was able to be with you what happened to be the last few days of your life and I'm thankful you introduced me to guacamole. We are very sorry to hear that you lost Joe. We did not know him well but Becky told us many, many Lopez family stories throughout the years that we felt we knew you. So many family situations were the same as ours. Kids getting in trouble, kids graduating from school, kids going to jail, babies being born to such young mothers,babysitting, etc. You have our deepest heartfelt sympathies for your loss. My name is Nadia Lopez; I am his second eldest grandchild. When my grandfather retired from the Air Force in 1973, his children were grown and he probably didnât expect to start Fatherhood all over again. At an early age in my life, he was thrust into the role of âdadâ whether he was prepared to or wanted to he became the only father my brother, myself and my younger sister would ever have.     I want to share some of my memories with you all so for those of you who knew him in other aspects of his life you could see that he was always a dad first and foremost.    Going golfing at Bergstrom and Jimmy Clay golf course, regardless of what the whether was like and staying out on the field until there was improvement. Going to the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf and thinking that was the best day ever! I think he wanted me to be the next Nancy Lopez.     Doing his homemade homework from as early as Kindergarten. He always would tell me . . . Practice, practice, practice. I graduated in the top 10 % percent of my class.     He taught me to fold clothes, he dropped a basket full of laundry in front of me when I was watching TV one day and told me to fold clothes instead. Then he came out to check my progress and had me refold them the right way, the Air Force way. I havenât misfolded another shirt yet. Not to mention I think I have obsessive compulsive disorder with my laundry now.    In 1998, I gave birth to my first child. Without hesitation, my grandparents took care of my son so that I could work full time. And they would take on 2 more of my children and continued to watch them until they started school. My youngest was still in their care as of last week. My youngest may have learned a bit more about diabetes than she would every have imagined as a 4 year old but she enjoyed every moment of it.  They were doing more than âbaby-sittingâ they were molding young, respectable adults.  I am very fortunate to have my grandparents, to have had them in my life and my childrenâs lives are a blessing all on its own. I am grateful.    My children love to be outdoors and that is credited to the many hours of being outside in the backyard, whether it was playing on the swing set, picking up pecans or simply sitting on the patio drinking coffee.     He loved the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, Las Vegas, Laredo, salsa music, golf, crossword puzzles, Elvis and recently the Food Channel. Most of all he loved my grandma and the family they created. I know my dad lived a great life.    I share these times with you because they are reflective of whom I am today. I am the product of my grandfather, my only dad.     I would like to leave you with one last line in which he used regularly . . . Itâs time to make the doughnuts!



TO ALL MY FAMILY ESPECIALLY MY GRANDMOTHER, WE WILL ALL MISS OUR GRANDPA,FATHER AND HUSBAND DEARLY! FOR HE WILL REST PEACEFULLY AT THE SIDE OF OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND WILL WATCH OVER US. FROM MY HEART THANK YOU GRANDPA FOR BEING THERE FOR US WHEN LIFE LESSONS NEEDED TO BE TAUGHT YOU ARE THE MAN OF THE HOUSE ALWAYS AND FOREVER.THANK YOU FOR GIVING US ALL LIFE, IF NOT FOR YOU NONE OF US WOULD BE HERE TO APPRECIATE AND CELEBRATE YOU'R WONDERFUL LIFE!!!!!! I will miss my Dad Dearly.He was the leader of the family and now it is his Sons and Daughters to continue the journey to keep the Family going for ever and be the gaurdian of my Mother.



Jimmy, Becky and all the rest of the Lopez Family, the Harker Family from Illinois would like to express our deepest condolences to each of you. My heart and prayers are with the entire Lopez family.  I especially hope my dearest friend, Jimmy, will be able to recover and find the Lord at this time in his life.  My daughters, Vyntaria & Skyra, had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Lopez at a chinese restaurant a while back when they were visiting Becky & Jimmy.  They remember how happy he seemed to be that night.  The Lopez Family is very important to me and I am so very sorry for your loss.

I took care of Joe when he was at SMC on the 8th floor. He was a sweet man with a wonderful, caring family. My prayers are with you during this time.



I worked with Joe many years ago.  I went to school with Paul and Suezette and now I'm a friend to Nadia.  I would like to send my deepest sympathy to all of you and your family.  God Bless  Brenda S Felan
