

ANN MARIE SPEIR Ann Marie Speir of Austin died Thursday August 26, 2004 at Austin, Texas. She was born in Gilmer, Texas, the daughter of J.T. and Iva Lee (Smith) Allen. Marie was the wife of Col. Wilson E. (Pat) Speir, retired Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety for 61 years. Ann Marie loved her family dearly. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A strong helpmate to her husband, she enjoyed entertaining friends in their home. Her family was not only her first priority and delight, but she was an ongoing source of inspiration to them. Actively involved in church activities in every place they lived, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Austin and of the Arleene Mangum Sunday School Class. Involved in community affairs, she was a member of the Austin Heritage Society, State Officials Ladies Club, Austin Womans Club, Austin Ro-Anns, and was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. Ann Marie will be remembered by her family and many friends for her love, ready smile, and her untiring efforts to enrich the lives of others. She was pre-deceased by her husband, sister Doris Biggerstaff, and brother H.E. Allen. She is survived by brother Thurman Allen of Bakersfield, California; sons and daughters-in law Dr. Larry Speir and Georgia of Seguin, Dr. Elwyn Speir and Anna of Austin, Maj. (ret) John Speir and Gail of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; grandchildren Alan Speir and wife Tanya, Gianna Speir Strauss and husband Mike, David Speir and wife Sandra, Rebecca Speir Listak and husband Phillip, Steven Speir, Patrick Speir, Marc Speir, Anne Speir, Stacy Milhous and Katie Milhous; seven great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, 901 Trinity St., at 1:30 p.m. on Monday August 30, with Dr. Roger A. Paynter Jr, and Rev. Douglas Keenan officiating. Burial will be at the Texas State Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Aug. 29 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home.
