Annie (Nancy) Maguire Haggarty Harlan

She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Wayne Harlan; her daughter and son in law, Linda Harlan Beakley and Lane Beakley; her beloved husband of 51 years; Walter Edwin Harlan, her sister, Mary Crossley; and brother, Jim Symington.

Annie is survived by her sister, Ann Brown; her daughter, Nancy Harlan Barclay and son-in-law, Max Barclay; four grandchildren, Brandi Beakley DeAtley, Lane Davis Beakley Jr., Dustin Harlan Barclay, and Lindsay Barclay Heideman; and seven amazing great-grandchildren; as well as nieces; nephews; and all our friends that she "adopted as her own".

She met CWO Walter Harlan at the Ritz in Manchester and they married in Manchester on May 9, 1950, in 1951 she left England to become a Texan and resided in Austin for most of that time.

She was born on October the 2nd, 1928 to Francis Walker Haggarty and Annie Maguire Dixson in Saltcoats, Ayrshire, Scotland. Her family moved to Manchester, England during World War II to aid in the war effort, where most of her remaining family still resides. Her greatest ambition was to be a mother and she was the best however she did work in personnel management at Sears Roebuck in Hancock Center for 20 years before retiring.

Not many knew that she was an accomplished swimmer, diver, dancer and artist. She loved music, reading, and traveling but most of all she loved her family and received great joy from caring for them. She was adored by all of us and a part of our hearts left with her. Her legacy of total love with all her heart is the greatest gift we received from her and we will live each day trying to live up to her example.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on South Congress.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made on her behalf to Hospice Austin, or the American Lung Association.
