Anthony W. Hopkins was born on February 10, 1981, as the second son of Douglas and Debra Hopkins. He was preceded in his death by his beloved father, Douglas Hopkins and both of his grandparents. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted mother, Debra Hopkins; his wife, Tamera; his children, Nekeysa, Anthony, and Kali Hopkins; his grandchildren, DaDrian and Adrian; his older brother, Lee Hopkins; his sisters, Allison, LaKeisha, and Tiffany Hopkins; his brothers, Neil (El Paso) and Russell (California); his sister, Mavia (California); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Following in his older brother, Lee's footsteps, he developed a deep love for sports.
While baseball was his first interest, it was basketball that became his true passion.
In his youth, Anthony played in numerous basketball leagues, traveling across the country. It was during one of these games that he earned the nickname "Tree," after an opposing player remarked to his coach that guarding him was like guarding a tree.
Throughout his athletic journey, Anthony found a strong sense of community through the mentorship of Coach Roland and the late Coach Hays. Both coaches displayed remarkable patience with his youthful energy and antics, and their guidance motivated him to strive for excellence both on and off the court. Their influence not only shaped his athletic abilities but also contributed significantly to his personal growth.
After graduating from LBJ High School in 1999, Anthony continued his basketball career at Kilgore Junior College, where he further developed his skills and deepened his commitment to the sport. Wherever he went, Anthony left a lasting impression on those around him. His impact both as an athlete and as a person will be deeply missed by many.
Though he stood at 6'11, his heart was even bigger ♥️
